Easter 2008 |
On
Good Friday, an old mathematical equation
was operative: everyone MINUS one equals
peace; but Jesus was all too alive for
death, and death itself caved in: Life burst
out on Easter morning, forever. Death could
never have any power against it again. And
so we celebrate a new equation: everyone
PLUS one equals peace. Christ is risen!
Jesus, freed from the bonds of death, boldly
boasts that God’s promise of everlasting
life is real, right now, for me, in us!
Each week this Easter season, Soul Space
will offer a picture, a short Scripture
quote and a prayer or poem written by eight
people from many walks of life who are
serious about living their faith journeys.
From week to week, throughout this
startlingly hopeful season, we
invite you to immerse yourself in this
wellspring of writing as you meditate on
second chances, hopeful awareness, and the
dazzling truth of Jesus’ Resurrection!

John
17:6 *
"I revealed your name to those whom you gave me out of the
world. They belonged to you, and you gave them to me, and
they have kept your word.” |

Dear God of persistent love,
Sometimes you think too highly of us. Your Son prayed for us and His Spirit has
never left us, yet why do we sometimes feel the inadequacy, our inconsistency,
life’s terrible betrayals more than we feel Your presence?
Why are we so good at believing You are there but act as if You are not?
Reveal Yourself to us with a New Pentecost, a new outpouring, so that the heart
You gave us may release courage and see You precisely in the inadequacy, the
inconsistency and the betrayals.
You are there, ever near, always Presence. Help us to live the power of that
presence -- trusting, truthful, always keeping your word.
